Jealousy Turns Deadly: Man Stabs Romantic Rival

Published:

Dramatic police body camera footage captures the arrest of a criminal shortly after fatally stabbing his romantic rival. Michael James, 45, used a kitchen knife to kill Bradley Hollis, 35, during a confrontation at his residence in March 2025.

James, who had recently ended a decade-long relationship with Zara Tolley, shared the house with her. Hollis, a father of four, had started seeing Tolley post the breakup, triggering James’ jealous attack while his own children were asleep upstairs.

Following a trial, James received a 14-year prison sentence for manslaughter and possessing a bladed weapon in public. He also confessed to assaulting Tolley before the fatal altercation with Hollis.

During sentencing, Judge Graham Reeds KC acknowledged James’ jealousy towards Hollis but condemned his violent actions. James’ tumultuous relationships with Tolley and Hollis were deemed unhealthy, leading to a tragic outcome.

The court heard details of James and Tolley’s past, including their plans for marriage in 2024, which never materialized. Tolley eventually found a new partner in Hollis, whom she regarded as her soulmate.

Tensions escalated as James sent threatening messages to Tolley regarding Hollis. On the night of the incident, James physically assaulted Tolley and locked her inside the house before engaging in a violent confrontation with Hollis.

Witnesses described a physical altercation between James and Hollis, culminating in James using a kitchen knife to fatally attack Hollis. Judge Reeds determined that James had not acted in self-defense but had intentionally used the knife as a weapon.

Subsequently, police arrested James, who was found hiding in a shed. In addition to the prison term, James was issued a restraining order barring him from contacting Tolley directly.
