“Beware: iPhone and Android Scam Targets O2 Users”

Published:

An urgent warning has been issued to iPhone and Android users as O2 alerts customers about a new scam targeting UK individuals. The fraudulent message circulating on devices claims that users’ SIM cards will be deactivated due to a failure to accept updated Terms and Conditions. The scam employs urgent language and appears to originate from an official O2 number, making it challenging to distinguish as fake.

The message states, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” Alongside this deactivation threat, the message includes a link redirecting users to a counterfeit website aimed at harvesting personal information for fraudulent purposes.

Customers receiving messages about their O2 SIM card expiring should refrain from clicking any embedded links. Instead, they should access their accounts through the official O2 platform or contact the network directly to verify the message’s authenticity.

Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, cautioned about the increasing sophistication of scammers. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and encouraged reporting suspicious messages to help combat scams effectively.

O2 has provided advice to safeguard customers, including avoiding responding to texts requesting acceptance of new Terms and Conditions or threatening SIM deactivation. Customers are advised to be wary of urgent or threatening messages, exercise caution with unknown numbers, refrain from clicking unexpected links, and immediately change passwords if they suspect unauthorized access to their accounts.
