A man has been found guilty of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend in front of their infant child, leading to a potential life sentence. Shawn Bolden Jr was convicted of multiple charges, including malice murder and possession of a weapon during a crime, after a short deliberation by the jury.
The incident stemmed from the decision by the victim, Deanna Ellison, to end the relationship with Bolden due to a previous altercation. Despite no longer being a couple, they had agreed to co-parent their child. Tragically, on a fateful day in May 2021, gunshots were heard at Ellison’s residence, prompting authorities to respond.
When responders arrived, they discovered a grisly scene with Ellison’s lifeless body and the traumatized infant. The court was presented with body camera footage capturing the aftermath of the crime. The Medical Examiner’s testimony revealed that Ellison succumbed to 11 gunshot wounds.
Shortly after the murder, Bolden was apprehended following a high-speed chase by law enforcement. Prosecutors highlighted Bolden’s lack of remorse or concern for the well-being of his child and the victim during the investigation.
The District Attorney, Shalena Cook Jones, expressed the heinous nature of the crime, emphasizing the brutality of the act committed in front of the couple’s young child. Bolden was also convicted of aggravated assault and illegal possession of a firearm. The sentencing is set for January 9, with the prosecution seeking life imprisonment without parole.
Deanna Ellison was remembered in her obituary as a vibrant and kind-hearted individual who brought joy to those around her with her infectious laughter and warm presence.
