The loved ones of a cherished father from the UK who passed away in Turkey have accused doctors of pressuring them by suggesting they would only prolong his life if they agreed to donate a kidney. John Kearney, 64, was on a vacation with friends in Marmari when he tragically fell off a scooter, sustaining a severe head injury. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries in a Turkish hospital nearly two weeks later.
Following the accident, the family received a distressing call to travel to Turkey as medical staff intended to switch off John’s life support. Joanna Kearney, his daughter, claimed that doctors made an appalling request when she requested more time for relatives to bid farewell. The family consented to the organ donation, but Joanna later discovered that the kidney was not a match through a WhatsApp message from a doctor, who bluntly asked if she wanted to see her father one last time.
In an emotional social media post, Joanna paid tribute to her father and expressed her deep sorrow at his passing. Before his untimely death, John’s family was informed that his life support would be terminated, prompting them to rush to his bedside in Turkey. Despite initial difficulties visiting him in the hospital, they were eventually allowed in to receive updates on his condition.
Joanna also remarked on the absence of helmets in the area where her father rented the scooter, expressing concern over the safety standards. A fundraising page has been established to support the family during this difficult time.
