A man at the remarkable age of 111 has shared the keys to his longevity – indulging in wine and sweets. Zhan Changcheng, a resident of Wanyao Village in southern China, was born on March 17, 1914. Despite living through various wars and political eras, Zhan remains active, enjoying walks and card games with his friends.
Zhan, who has nine children ranging from 59 to 82 years old, lives with four generations of his family. His sons, aged 72 and 69, take turns caring for him along with their partners. Known for his meticulous personal habits, Zhan brushes his teeth thrice daily and starts his day at 5 am, eagerly awaiting breakfast after a stroll in the garden.
The centenarian’s family revealed his preference for sweetened food, even insisting on sweetened white rice. Despite his affinity for sugary treats, Zhan maintains good health according to his blood sugar levels and regular medical check-ups. He spent over 50 years mastering bamboo weaving, becoming a respected figure in the industry and mentoring numerous apprentices.
Zhan’s love for wine is evident as he raises a glass almost daily. Although he used to be a heavy smoker, he quit a few years ago under family pressure. Remarkably, he carries a pack of cigarettes but offers them to others, despite no longer smoking. Described as leading a simple and content life, Zhan is satisfied with modest living essentials.
Wanyao Village is home to 22 nonagenarians, with two surpassing the age of 100. Zhan is recognized as the second oldest person in China, following Zhou Renqing, who will celebrate his 112th birthday on November 7.
