“Tragic Collision: 8-Year-Old Cyclist Killed by E-Bike”

A community is in sorrow following the tragic death of an eight-year-old boy who collided with an e-bike while cycling home from school. The incident occurred on a bike path near the intersection of Kawana Way and Sunshine Motorway at Mountain Creek. The boy, identified as Zeke Hondow, collided with a 15-year-old boy also riding an e-bike. Both riders were wearing helmets during the collision.

Zeke was immediately taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by medical staff. Queensland Police reported that the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident, which took place on October 30th. Authorities stated that a high school-aged male rider and a primary school-aged male rider collided on the bike path, leading to the fatal outcome.

The high school-aged boy declined medical assistance and is cooperating with the police investigation. The Forensic Crash Unit is urging any witnesses or individuals with relevant footage of the crash to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg expressed condolences to the family and emphasized the need for government action regarding e-bike safety. He highlighted the rapid technological advancements in e-bikes and emphasized the importance of government intervention at all levels to address related issues.

A fundraising campaign through GoFundMe has been initiated to support Zeke’s family in managing the financial challenges following his untimely passing. The campaign has raised over $6,000 to date.
