“Keir Starmer Reveals Extensive Chinese Spying Evidence”

Published:

Keir Starmer has released crucial evidence related to a collapsed espionage case involving China, revealing extensive spying activities by Beijing.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) recently dropped charges against Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry, former parliamentary figures accused of sharing information with China, a move that sparked controversy.

Following mounting pressure, three witness statements from the government’s deputy national security adviser, Matthew Collins, were made public on Wednesday evening. One statement, issued during the Conservative government in December 2023, highlighted the significant challenge posed by Beijing and its extensive espionage operations against the UK.

The disclosed evidence emphasized the potential harm to the UK’s interests and security but also indicated the government’s intention to maintain open and constructive relations with China while addressing security concerns.

Under the current Labour government, a subsequent statement underscored the ongoing challenges presented by China, stressing the government’s commitment to fostering a positive economic partnership with the country.

In a third statement to the CPS dated August 2025, Mr. Collins reiterated the espionage threat posed by China and reiterated the government’s stance on engaging with China while ensuring national security.

During discussions in Parliament, Mr. Starmer clarified that the evidence provided reflected the previous government’s position on China and highlighted the need for constructive engagement despite security risks.

Notably, Boris Johnson’s former aide, Dominic Cummings, alleged that China had compromised a Whitehall data system for transferring sensitive information across the government. However, a Cabinet Office spokesperson denied these claims, stating that the integrity of the government’s data transfer systems had not been compromised.
