“Christmas Chocolate Prices Soar – Budget Wisely!”

Published:

During this time of year, many of us enjoy purchasing tins of chocolates to share with loved ones or savor individually. However, if you’re planning to do so, it might be wise to budget for it.

Traditionally, one would not expect to pay more than five pounds for a tin of festive chocolates. Yet, during a recent supermarket visit, I was surprised by the prices of Cadbury Roses and Heroes tins. While browsing at my local Sainsbury’s, I had the idea of grabbing a tin of chocolates to enjoy while watching a Christmas movie.

To my dismay, both 700g tins of Cadbury Roses and Heroes were priced at £16.50 each. There is a slight silver lining for Nectar cardholders who can purchase the tins for £10, but it still seems quite costly in my opinion.

Fortunately, Sainsbury’s offers more affordable options for chocolate tins. For instance, the Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Mixed Chunks Tin (60g) is priced at £9.59 or £6.50 with a Nectar card. Additionally, a 750g tin of Quality Street costs £13 or £8.50 with a Nectar card.

Moreover, tubs containing 500-550g of Celebrations, Heroes, and Quality Street are available for just £6 each at Sainsbury’s.

For those seeking better deals, a trip to Tesco might be worthwhile. Currently, the same 500-550g tubs of Celebrations and Quality Street are priced at just £3.95 with a Clubcard, and £4.50 at regular price.

Similarly, the £16.50/£10 Heroes tub at Sainsbury’s can be purchased for only £7.50 with a Clubcard at Tesco, though it is priced at £15 normally.

These observations come after a recent comparison of supermarket prices for Christmas chocolate tubs. Notably, standard tubs of Heroes, Roses, and Celebrations are all priced under £5 at Asda, while Morrisons offers them for £7 (or £5.50 with a Morrisons More Card).

To reiterate, Celebrations and Quality Street are priced at just £3.95 with a Clubcard at Tesco, while Roses and Heroes are £7 (or £5.25 with a Clubcard). Additionally, Aldi and Lidl both sell tubs for under £5 each.

It’s worth noting that Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do not stock traditional tubs on their websites. However, these retailers do offer smaller pouch-sized packets and alternative festive chocolates priced between approximately £4 and £10.
