Vladimir Putin has conducted a successful test of a nuclear torpedo with the capability to devastate vast coastlines, deeming it a significant achievement. This new weapon, similar to those in the US and UK nuclear arsenals, can trigger radioactive tsunamis, rendering entire coastlines uninhabitable. Putin emphasized the successful launch from a carrier submarine and the activation of the nuclear power unit, marking a first-time accomplishment.
Putin highlighted that the power of this torpedo, named Poseidon, surpasses that of the Russian-developed Sarmat intercontinental missile, also known as Satan II. This test follows a recent series of military demonstrations, including the activation of the “Flying Chernobyl” missile. Moscow’s top general confirmed the successful testing of an experimental cruise missile powered by a nuclear reactor, known as the Burevestnik in Russia and codenamed “Skyfall” by NATO.
General Valery Gerasimov stated that the Burevestnik missile possesses capabilities to evade missile and air defense systems, allowing it to accurately target highly protected objectives from any distance. The missile test is interpreted as a strategic message, particularly in response to the breakdown of plans for a meeting between Donald Trump and Putin regarding the conflict in Ukraine earlier in the month.
In response to the Russian test, President Trump mentioned the presence of a US nuclear submarine near the Russian coast, urging Putin to focus on ending the prolonged conflict instead of conducting missile tests. Trump emphasized the need to resolve the ongoing war rather than engaging in military demonstrations.
