“Massacre in Sudan: RSF Forces Leave Trail of Blood”

Published:

Shocking scenes following the recent atrocity in the ongoing conflict in Sudan reveal vast areas of sand soaked in blood and heaps of corpses.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, carried out a lethal attack on El Fasher in Sudan’s Darfur region, displacing the Sudanese army from its final stronghold in the area amid the latest violent clash of a two-year civil war.

Over 2,000 civilians lost their lives after the army’s retreat from El Fasher, leaving a significant number of people, including many children, under the control of the paramilitary forces, as revealed by analysis conducted by Yale University. Aerial views of Daraja Oula neighborhood in the city display objects resembling human bodies in clusters and a reddish tint on the ground, as per findings from analysts at the Yale School of Public Health’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL).

Satellite imagery shows elongated shapes, approximately two meters long each, scattered near sand barriers and vehicles, suggesting potential pools of blood compared to earlier images devoid of such red stains.

Additionally, there are reports of barricaded side streets with vehicles, indicating extensive “door-to-door clearance operations.” Witnesses reported multiple sites with groups of bodies, where civilians were allegedly shot while attempting to escape.

Experts from Yale highlighted the systematic and deliberate ethnic cleansing in El Fasher targeting non-Arab communities through displacement and summary executions. Witnesses and local militia accused the RSF of committing atrocities primarily against women, children, and the elderly.

The Sudanese army’s Joint Forces reported that over 2,000 civilians were executed within 48 hours. Videos circulating on social media show RSF members celebrating around the former army base in El Fasher, with conflicting footage depicting brutal acts including shootings and beatings on fleeing individuals.

Alarming reports from the UN Human Rights Office describe the RSF’s actions as including summary executions and other atrocities. Military authorities confirmed the army’s withdrawal from the base due to intense RSF attacks, aiming to protect civilians from further harm.

Yvette Cooper, the British Foreign Secretary, expressed deep concern over the disturbing pattern of violence in El Fasher, citing systematic killings, torture, and sexual violence.

Reports indicate that RSF fighters rampaged through El Fasher, looting medical facilities, and causing destruction to essential infrastructure, as condemned by organizations such as the Sudan Doctor Network and Darfur Network for Human Rights.

The situation worsened as the RSF detained civilians, including a local journalist, leading to fears of mass violations similar to past atrocities. The Doctors’ Union criticized the RSF’s actions as a brutal campaign targeting civilians, urging international intervention.
