In West Sussex, a young girl was subjected to sexual abuse by three generations of her own family. The distressing case unfolded at Hove Crown Court, revealing that the girl endured sexual assaults from her father, grandfather, and brothers, alongside experiencing child cruelty from her mother.
Authorities at Sussex Police disclosed that six individuals have been convicted of 39 offenses against two sisters within the family, with two defendants also found guilty of obstructing justice. Throughout the investigation, the victims received support from specialized officers and partner organizations.
The appalling abuse was brought to light when the elder sister confided in a school staff member, leading to the revelation that both sisters had suffered assault and neglect by their parents. The trial commenced on September 16, resulting in guilty verdicts on 39 out of 42 charges for the defendants, who will remain in custody until their sentencing in 2026.
In a bid to protect the victims’ identities, Sussex Police collaborated with the media to ensure responsible reporting of the case. Due to legal constraints, the identities of the defendants cannot be disclosed publicly.
Detective Superintendent Andrew Harbour expressed, “This investigation has deeply impacted the two victims. Our utmost concern remains their well-being and protection in this profoundly distressing case. We have worked closely with partner agencies to ensure ongoing support for the young victims.”
He continued, “Addressing violence against women and girls is a key focus for Sussex Police. We urge all victims of rape and serious sexual offenses to come forward and report their experiences to us. Our officers have been resolute in seeking justice in this case, and we appreciate the jury’s guilty verdicts. We advise against speculating online about the case to uphold the victims’ legal right to anonymity.”
