“Google’s Fitbit Air: Stylish Fitness Tracker with No Screen”

Published:

Fitbit has been aiding users in staying active for more than 15 years. Now, under Google’s ownership, the company introduces the Fitbit Air, a novel offering that provides a cost-effective and convenient method to monitor daily fitness levels. Unlike previous models, the Fitbit Air lacks a screen and resembles popular wristbands like Whoop bands, designed to be worn as a stylish accessory.

Although this design choice means sacrificing features like message reading, heart rate monitoring, and exercise stat viewing, it offers notable benefits. The Fitbit Air boasts a more comfortable bracelet-style strap compared to a smartwatch, as confirmed by a recent Google study rating it as more comfortable than its top competitors.

Additionally, the Fitbit Air impresses with its extended battery life, lasting a full week without requiring removal. Even when the battery depletes, quick charging capabilities provide a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The device also includes a new magnetic charger featuring bi-directional technology, ensuring easy and hassle-free recharging without worrying about orientation.

Despite its minimalist appearance, the Fitbit Air remains true to its core functionality. It tracks nightly sleep, activity levels, daily exercise, heart rate, and even monitors for conditions like AFib, notifying users of irregular heart rhythms. Embedded features encompass an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor.

With no display, all collected data is seamlessly transmitted to smartphones, where the Google Health Coach compiles a comprehensive health overview for the user. The Fitbit Air is fully water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be offered in four color options: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender.

As for pricing, the Fitbit Air is set to retail at £84.99 upon its release.
