A man convicted of sexually assaulting a doctor in a late-night incident proceeded to engage in inappropriate behavior while in court for his initial appearance. Mihai Nicolae Patran, aged 34, targeted a 27-year-old woman in Glasgow city center on November 26, 2023. The victim managed to escape to a nearby taxi while partially unclothed, and Patran was apprehended afterward. He has now been found guilty of the offenses and is potentially facing a lengthy prison term. During the court session, Patran’s lewd actions were observed by a female prison officer, causing distress.
At Glasgow High Court, the victim shared her harrowing experience of being assaulted after a night out. She recounted feeling disoriented and scared when confronted by the perpetrator in an alleyway. Despite her protests and pleas to stop, the assailant proceeded with the assault. The victim eventually managed to flee the scene and seek help from an Uber driver, informing him of the traumatic incident.
Patran, who had no permanent address, was arrested following an investigation into the assault. Despite his claims of consensual activity, he was convicted on all charges and is now a registered sex offender. Additional incidents of indecent exposure by Patran on a train route were also brought to light during the proceedings. The court’s attention was drawn to his inappropriate conduct during a subsequent appearance, leading to police involvement.
Patran is currently in custody awaiting sentencing and is set to face the consequences of his criminal actions in the coming weeks.
