Ferrari’s chairman, John Elkann, criticized Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc after a disappointing Sao Paulo Grand Prix, urging them to prioritize driving over talking. Both drivers failed to score any points in the race, retiring due to damage from separate incidents.
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship team triumphed at the Eight Hours of Bahrain, with Alessandro Pier Guidi, Antonio Giovinazzi, and James Calado clinching the drivers’ title. Ferrari also dominated the manufacturers’ standings, finishing 74 points ahead.
In contrast, the F1 season has been challenging for Ferrari, particularly for Hamilton, who struggled to adjust. Despite a Sprint race win in Shanghai, the overall performance has been lackluster.
The struggles extend to Scuderia Ferrari, notably seen in Leclerc’s inability to secure a Grand Prix victory despite minimal errors.
Elkann, who was in Bahrain during the Grand Prix, blamed the drivers for Ferrari’s lack of competitiveness, emphasizing the importance of unity for success. He highlighted the team’s achievements in WEC and the improvements in mechanics and engineering but pointed out the need for drivers to focus more on driving.
Currently, Ferrari ranks fourth in the constructors’ championship, trailing behind Mercedes and Red Bull. They are the only top-four team without a Grand Prix win in 2025.
Hamilton, finishing 13th in Sao Paulo before retiring, expressed frustration over the team’s performance but vowed to bounce back stronger. Leclerc acknowledged the challenging position in the constructors’ championship and emphasized the team’s effort to improve.
