“UK Microcomputers Found in Russian Missiles”

Published:

British microcomputers were discovered in Russian missiles and drones used in the recent attacks on Ukraine, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He highlighted that these weapons also contained over 100,000 components from various foreign countries such as Germany, Japan, and the US.

Zelensky urged for more stringent sanctions on Russia, emphasizing that parts originating from allied nations were found in Russian weaponry. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) spokesperson mentioned that the UK government had been working to prevent British products from ending up in Russian arms.

The DBT spokesperson stated that the UK took reports of UK goods in Russian weaponry seriously and had enforced bans on exporting thousands of items to Russia, aligning with the most severe sanctions package. They warned that businesses and individuals not complying with these sanctions could face significant financial penalties or legal action, with over £20 billion ($26.9 billion) of UK-Russian business now affected.

Zelensky emphasized in a statement that the UK was the source of microcomputers for drone flight control in the weapons. He stressed the importance of eliminating any schemes that evade sanctions and noted that Ukraine’s allies possessed detailed information on companies and products still utilized by Russia.

Additionally, Zelensky pointed out that other countries like China, Taiwan, and the Netherlands were involved in producing components found in Russian armaments. The attacks on Sunday resulted in the launch of 549 missiles and drones by Russia, causing casualties, including the deaths of a family in Lapaivka.

Despite facing extensive sanctions post-Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia’s economy has managed to adapt and avoid collapse. Increased military spending has offset job losses from sanctioned sectors, leading to sustained growth. Furthermore, Russia has redirected energy exports to China and India after trade ties with European nations were severed.
