“Freely Emerges as Strong Contender in UK TV Market”

Published:

Sky and Freeview have long been dominant forces in the UK TV market, reaching millions of households with their content. However, a new player has emerged in the form of Freely, which launched in 2024 and has quickly gained traction, with over one million households already switching to the platform..

Since its inception, Freely has enhanced its features and expanded its TV guide to offer over 50 live channels without the need for traditional aerial or dish installations.

In a recent development, Freely has introduced its new Freely Spotlight Channels, providing additional entertainment to households at no extra cost. These channels will be accessible via a standard Wi-Fi connection.

Freely has announced that the Spotlight Channels will be featured on channel 31 and channels 90 to 99, with availability extended to CTV OS partners on Freely-enabled devices.

V, formerly known as VIDAA, the company behind the VIDAA OS smart TV platform found in Hisense televisions, has been revealed as the launch partner for Freely’s Spotlight Channels. This partnership will bring a curated selection of V’s channels to the Freely TV Guide.

The Freely Spotlight Channels will be integrated alongside established UK broadcasters in the TV guide, offering selected channels increased visibility and credibility within the UK’s regulated TV landscape.

While specific content details have not been disclosed yet, more information is anticipated closer to the launch date.

Deep Halder, Chief Commercial Officer at Everyone TV, shared: “As Freely continues to expand, we are dedicated to creating a platform that offers lasting value across the entire ecosystem.

“By allowing CTV OS partners to engage in specific sections of the TV guide, we can generate new opportunities for our partners while upholding our commitment to UK audiences by ensuring free, reliable TV remains easily accessible in the streaming era.

“With V being our initial partner at Freely’s launch two years ago, it is fitting that they lead the way as our Spotlight Channels launch partner, featuring their new channels prominently in the TV Guide.”

Curious about Freely?

Operated by the same team behind Freeview and Freesat, Freely stands out as content is delivered solely through broadband, eliminating the need for antennas, satellite dishes, or complex installations.

To access Freely, households only require a compatible TV or set-top box and a stable Wi-Fi connection.

The platform currently offers over 50 live channels, on-demand content, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live TV.
