“She’s Quality: Irish Sprinter Dies After Breeders’ Cup Tragedy”

Published:

Irish sprinter She’s Quality tragically passed away in a hospital following a pelvic fracture sustained while competing at the Breeders’ Cup in Del Mar, California. The four-year-old filly, known for her success under trainer Jack Davison from Dunboyne, Co Meath, had achieved significant earnings exceeding £250,000 and had notably secured four second-place finishes in Group races in 2025.

She had been considered a strong contender for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, but her race came to an abrupt end as she fell behind the pack early on, prompting jockey Colin Keane to pull her up on the backstretch.

After being dismounted, veterinarians quickly attended to She’s Quality behind screens as concerns grew for her well-being. Breeders’ Cup veterinarian Dr. Scott Hay noted that the filly displayed lameness in her right hind leg but no obvious injuries were visible, and she was subsequently transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Tragically, within 24 hours, trainer Davison announced the heartbreaking news of She’s Quality’s passing due to the pelvic fracture sustained during the race. Despite receiving immediate care at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital following the incident, her condition deteriorated overnight, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize her.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss, Davison praised She’s Quality as a top-class filly who had left a lasting impact on all involved. The Breeders’ Cup also extended their sympathies to She’s Quality’s connections, acknowledging the profound impact of her passing on the equestrian community.
