“Driver Learns Lesson: Police Crack Down on Road Safety”

Published:

A driver operating a van was taught a valuable lesson after gesturing inappropriately at a large HGV truck. Nottinghamshire Police reported that the individual was on the M1 when the incident occurred, with police officers inside the HGV as part of a road safety initiative.

The driver was stopped by a nearby police car and received a verbal warning along with advice. Additionally, he was fined separately for driving without wearing a seatbelt. PC Pearce Riley emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting the potential dangers of not using a seatbelt in the event of a collision.

The purpose of such operations, according to PC Pearce Riley, is to prevent fatalities and serious injuries on the road network, rather than to catch individuals in the act. During the four-day operation, the police issued fines to 50 motorists.

This development follows a recent incident where over 10,000 motorists were fined for breaching new regulations. In Gloucestershire, 13,000 drivers were prosecuted for speeding through the A417 Missing Link roadworks.

National Highways warned that failure to adhere to the 40mph speed limit in place at the A417 roadworks could result in fatal accidents. Eline Acard, Senior Project Manager at National Highways, stressed the importance of safety, expressing concern over drivers risking their safety and that of roadworkers by speeding through the work zones.
