“Lightning Reach Connects Struggling Households to £20M Aid”

Published:

Struggling households are encouraged to verify their eligibility for assistance with living expenses, such as vouchers and financial aid, before the upcoming Budget.

A platform called Lightning Reach assists individuals in locating and applying for various support programs, collaborating with over 2,500 partners. On average, users of Lightning Reach receive around £750 in assistance. This service is free to use and has already connected more than 200,000 people to over £20 million in financial aid since its launch in 2021, including grants from councils and charities.

Among the partners accessible through Lightning Reach are the British Gas Energy Trust, TSB, and Lambeth Council. To determine eligibility, individuals can visit the Lightning Reach application portal.

Ren Yi Hooi, the Founder CEO of Lightning Reach, emphasized the pressing need for coordinated support as the Budget is anticipated to introduce new tax hikes, further straining household finances.

If concerned about managing bills, contacting service providers promptly to explore available assistance options is recommended. Providers may assist in evaluating the most cost-effective plans or offer temporary payment breaks to alleviate financial burdens.

Additionally, it is advisable to inquire with local councils about potential eligibility for aid from the Household Support Fund, which offers financial assistance to low-income households for bill payments. Support may come in the form of vouchers or cash payments, varying based on each council’s policies.

For instance, the City of York Council recently initiated one-off £100 payments from the Household Support Fund during the winter season. Eligibility for this direct payment is linked to receiving council tax bill assistance.
