“Sky Q Faces Competition from Humax Aura EZ 4K Recorder”

Published:

Sky Q, a renowned set-top box, is highly praised for its features like live TV recording, premium channel access, and streaming apps such as Disney+ and Netflix. Despite its popularity, Sky is shifting focus towards internet-based products like the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV, hinting at a move away from the satellite platform. This transition could pave the way for new competitors in the market.

Humax has unveiled the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a device that shares similarities with Sky Q. Boasting a 2TB hard drive for storing ample TV content, films, and sports, the device stands out in a market where physical recording options are becoming scarce.

Powered by Freely, the Aura EZ offers live TV viewing over broadband, with access to over 60 channels and a vast library of on-demand programs. This flexibility allows easy relocation of the box, simple installation, and regular feature updates.

Other features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the box remotely via the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling convenient scheduling and browsing.

While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie content, it is a subscription-free service. The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled for release in the UK in February 2026, priced at £249.

In parallel, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle offering access to major streaming services like Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and upcoming HBO Max for £24 per month. This bundle, part of the Ultimate TV plan, also provides over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Additionally, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide as part of the package.

The £24 subscription bundle includes:
– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (from March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (from March 26)
– Hayu (from July, with selected content available from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
