“Virgin Media Upgrading Customers to Advanced Hub 5 Routers for Enhanced Connectivity”

Published:

Virgin Media is set to provide certain broadband customers with upgraded home routers for improved connectivity. The company announced that users still using the older Hub 3 and Hub 4 devices will soon have the opportunity to switch to the more advanced Hub 5 technology at no extra cost. The Hub 5 incorporates Wi-Fi 6 technology, offering faster and more reliable connections compared to the older models.

Eligible customers will receive notifications via email in the upcoming weeks and months as the gradual rollout of the upgrade progresses throughout 2026. The Hub 5 is equipped with Wi-Fi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to enhance coverage within homes, ensuring stronger and more consistent connectivity. Virgin Media plans to upgrade a significant number of customers using older routers to benefit from these improvements.

Customers who qualify for the upgrade will be contacted directly by Virgin Media, eliminating the need for them to take any immediate action. Alternatively, customers can verify their eligibility by logging into their My Virgin Media account online.

To determine their current router model, customers can check the sticker on the back or bottom of the device or access the information through the Virgin Media Connect app. Upgrading to the Hub 5 router can enhance broadband performance significantly, providing wider Wi-Fi coverage, improved stability, and support for future speed upgrades, including faster Gig1 speeds. Gig1 speeds enable users to download a full HD movie in under 40 seconds, significantly surpassing the UK average download speed.

Wi-Fi 6, the latest wireless networking technology, offers faster speeds, improved efficiency, and better performance in congested environments. It can accommodate more connected devices simultaneously, delivering superior performance across both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Additionally, Wi-Fi 6 is energy-efficient, making it suitable for modern smart homes with multiple connected devices and high data requirements. While even newer Wi-Fi 7 technology is available, Wi-Fi 6 remains ideal for the average user.
