“Mother Admits Killing Son for Space in Home”

Published:

A heartless mother inflicted fatal abuse on her defenseless toddler in a cruel attempt to create more space in her dwelling, according to court records.

Amanda Mae Maison, in a twisted turn of events, has confessed to the killing of three-year-old Matthew Maison, seven years after his tragic demise. Reports indicate that she subjected the young child to confinement in rooms for extended periods, physically assaulted him by slamming his head against walls, and allegedly encouraged her then-partner to mistreat him.

In a horrifying revelation, it was disclosed that the malevolent parent subjected the vulnerable boy to “military time outs” as part of her reign of terror. The lifeless body of Matthew was discovered in his bed by caretakers. Amanda Maison and Maurice Houle, her former partner, were apprehended in connection with the heinous act.

Following an autopsy, it was determined that Matthew died from severe injuries caused by blunt force trauma and potential suffocation. Maison struck a deal with prosecutors that involves pleading guilty and providing truthful testimony against Maurice Houle in his upcoming trial on a charge of first-degree murder.

During her plea on November 5, the 33-year-old mother acknowledged mistreating Matthew. Allegedly, the duo conspired to eliminate the child to make space for a potential offspring they could have together. Maison confessed that she once forcefully pushed her son’s head into a wall during a so-called “military time-out” at their residence, as stated by the St Clair County Sheriff’s Office.

Maison admitted to facilitating Houle’s abusive behavior towards her child and actively participating in concealing it from authorities and child protective services. She also confessed to devising a plan to hide the true cause of Matthew’s death from law enforcement.

In an official statement, it was revealed that Amanda allowed an environment where Matthew was systematically abused, ultimately leading to his tragic death. She collaborated with Maurice Houle in concealing the circumstances of Matthew’s demise from the authorities.

Upon their arrest, authorities uncovered the couple’s scheme to fabricate explanations for Matthew’s prior injuries. Details emerged suggesting Houle physically assaulted the child, subjected him to prolonged room confinement without sustenance, and even placed a pillow over his face in a deceptive manner.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Sparling emphasized the seriousness of the case, highlighting the prolonged suffering endured by the young victim, Matthew, due to the defendants’ actions.

Maison also confessed to deliberately avoiding medical appointments for Matthew to prevent healthcare professionals from discovering his injuries. Both defendants faced first-degree murder charges in April, with Maison pleading guilty to second-degree homicide on November 5. As part of her plea agreement, she will testify in Houle’s trial scheduled for early 2026.
