One of the standout jockeys of the Flat season has been hospitalized following a neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Clifford Lee, a 29-year-old stable jockey under Karl Burke, has had a remarkable season with 94 wins, including his first Group 1 victory aboard Venetian Sun in the Prix Morny. Despite his recent success, a riding suspension interrupted his winning streak as he aimed to reach 100 victories for the first time upon his return.
Unfortunately, Lee’s plans were derailed after an incident during his holiday led to the accident. Burke confirmed the news, stating that Lee had a fall while on a cross-country motorbike trip in Scotland, resulting in a neck injury.
Originally from south-east London with no racing background, Lee’s move to Yorkshire to work with Burke has seen him rise to prominence as one of Britain’s top jockeys. His strategic racing skills were showcased in consecutive wins at the Cambridgeshire, a highly competitive handicap race, aboard Boiling Point and Liberty Lane.
Support and well wishes have been pouring in for Lee, who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Edinburgh. Fans have expressed hopes for his speedy recovery, acknowledging his exceptional performance throughout the season and anticipating a bright future ahead.
