In today’s modern era, broadband has become an integral part of our daily lives, serving a variety of purposes such as streaming entertainment, facilitating remote work, ensuring home security through internet-connected devices like cameras, and managing smart home features like lighting and heating.
As more households embrace internet-connected gadgets and increase their online streaming activities, the demand for fast and reliable broadband access has surged. However, not all internet service providers (ISPs) are delivering the same level of performance, as revealed by SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service enabling users to compare their internet speeds with others in their vicinity.
According to the latest data from SpeedGo, Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, boasting an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed translates to downloading a full HD movie in just over two minutes, which is over three times quicker than the national average. Following closely behind is Vodafone with average download speeds of 175Mbps, trailed by BT (EE). On the other end of the spectrum is TalkTalk, reporting an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
Ranking of average download speeds in the UK:
– Virgin Media: 256.5Mbps
– Vodafone: 175.1Mbps
– BT (EE): 122.5Mbps
