Luke Littler is on the verge of potentially clinching the top spot in the PDC World Rankings this weekend. The Machineseeker European Championship kicks off in Dortmund on Thursday night, featuring the top 32 players from the 2025 European Tour rankings vying for a share of the £600,000 prize money.
Esteemed players like Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, and Gerwyn Price will kick off the PDC Premier Event first round, followed by Littler, Luke Humphries, and Nathan Aspinall on Friday evening. The tournament progresses to the second round on Saturday, culminating in the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final on Sunday.
The champion of the Machineseeker European Championship will walk away with £120,000, with the runner-up securing £60,000. Semi-finalists will receive £40,000 each, while quarter-finalists will pocket £25,000.
Participants exiting in the second or first round will still earn £15,000 and £7,500, respectively. With substantial prize money at stake, Littler has a chance to surpass Humphries and claim the top position.
‘The Nuke’ is in close contention with ‘Cool Hand Luke’, the current world number one. To overtake Humphries, Littler needs to bridge the £52,500 gap in earnings.
If Humphries, the reigning world number one, faces an early exit in the first round against Krzysztof Ratajski, Littler reaching the semi-finals would create a £5,000 difference. Nevertheless, it remains a challenging task.
The 18-year-old has faced challenges with German crowds in the past. Despite encountering a hostile reception in Berlin during the Premier League in April, where he made some gestures after losing to Chris Dobey, Littler remains determined.
Looking ahead to the PDC World Darts Championship, Littler sees an opportunity to claim the world number one title later in the year. Expressing his ambitions to reporters, he emphasized the importance of consistent performance and putting pressure on the current leader.
As the tournament progresses, fans anticipate an intense competition with high stakes, showcasing the talent and determination of the top darts players in the world.
