“Decades-Long Mystery Solved: Hiker’s Frozen Body Found in Glacier”

Published:

The frozen body of a hiker missing for over 25 years has been discovered in a glacier, finally solving a mystery that originated in 1997. Authorities were alerted after finding an ID card with the name Naseeruddin on the body, connecting it to a hiker who disappeared in Pakistan during a snowstorm.

Omar Khan, a shepherd, made the astonishing find and described the intact state of the body, noting that the clothes were undamaged. Police confirmed the identity as Naseeruddin, prompting locals to share more details about the tragic end to his story.

Naseeruddin, accompanied by his brother Kathiruddin, went missing while trekking on horseback in Lady Valley. Despite extensive search efforts, he was not found. Nearly three decades later, his well-preserved body was uncovered, attributed to the glacier’s conditions that can naturally preserve human remains for centuries.

At 33 years old, Naseeruddin, a member of the Saleh Khel tribe, was identified through DNA tests, although his family and friends recognized him by his well-preserved facial features. This discovery brought closure to his family after years of uncertainty.

The Kohistan region, where he was found, is renowned for its pastures, lakes, and forests, a favored spot for local herders during certain seasons. This case resembles a similar incident in Peru where climber William Stampfl’s mummified body was found 22 years after he disappeared in an avalanche, remaining hidden under snow for two decades.
