Oleksandr Usyk Set to Return to the Ring in 2022

Published:

Oleksandr Usyk has declined the opportunity to fight emerging British talent Moses Itauma. The Ukrainian secured his second undisputed heavyweight championship in July by defeating Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd exceeding 90,000. Despite initially suggesting he had only two fights left in him before retirement, Usyk has now vowed to continue boxing until he reaches the age of 41. He shared his plans to establish a Sports Academy for training purposes after retiring from the sport.

As Usyk prepares for his return to the ring next year, potential opponents include Joseph Parker and Tyson Fury, who is set to make a comeback in the near future. Itauma, a promising undefeated British fighter, had been considered a contender to face Usyk, but the Ukrainian dismissed any such possibility. Itauma’s decision to decline an IBF final eliminator fight against Frank Sanchez has shifted his focus towards a different path to a world title bout.

Itauma, who recently defeated Dillian Whyte with a knockout victory, expressed his readiness to face Usyk, highlighting the win-win scenario it presents for his career progression. Meanwhile, Kieron Conway is scheduled to take on George Liddard at York Hall, Bethnal Green, with live coverage available on DAZN. Viewers can watch the event through the DAZN streaming platform via subscription options.
