Lord Heseltine Warns Against Far-Right Rise

Published:

Lord Michael Heseltine has drawn parallels between the political group Reform and the fascist movements of the 1930s, while also criticizing certain policies of his own party regarding asylum seekers. The former Deputy Prime Minister, a prominent figure from Margaret Thatcher’s era, condemned what he called “dishonest” attacks on migrants and strongly opposed Kemi Badenoch’s intentions to scale back environmental regulations.

Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester, Lord Heseltine expressed concerns about the rise of far-right ideologies in Europe and the United States, singling out Nigel Farage’s party. He emphasized that spreading false information about asylum seekers only fuels prejudice within communities.

Furthermore, Lord Heseltine criticized the proposal to dismantle the Climate Change Act, labeling it as “unforgivable irresponsibility.” He warned against ignoring the threats posed by climate change, highlighting the importance of the conservative role in addressing this global crisis.

In a pointed remark directed at certain senior Tories, Lord Heseltine stressed the need to reject populist extremism and avoid aligning with figures like Nigel Farage. He urged a strong stance against divisive rhetoric and emphasized the significance of maintaining conservative efforts in combating climate change.
