“Piers Morgan Backtracks on Jake Paul Criticism, Eyes Anthony Joshua Bout”

Published:

Piers Morgan has provided more context to his recent social media remarks criticizing Jake Paul’s boxing career, referring to it as “boring staged content.” Speculation has been rife about the possibility of Paul facing off against Anthony Joshua in the boxing ring.

Initially rising to fame on YouTube, Paul, 28, transitioned to boxing in 2020 and has since secured victories in 12 matches. Notably, he has defeated legends like Mike Tyson and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in different weight divisions, along with a win against former UFC star Nate Diaz.

Despite Paul’s success, Morgan had publicly expressed skepticism about his opponents’ caliber in the past. However, with talks circulating about a potential showdown between Paul and the two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua, Morgan has altered his viewpoint.

Morgan, the former host of Good Morning Britain, clarified his previous statement in a recent social media post, emphasizing that his criticism of Paul stemmed from facing older opponents past their prime. He highlighted that a matchup with Joshua, who is still an active and top-ranked fighter, would present a more credible challenge for Paul.

Acknowledging the possibility of Paul and Joshua squaring off, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter, admitted that discussions for the fight were underway. Hearn expressed optimism about the bout materializing, indicating a 50:50 chance of it happening based on recent conversations.

The potential clash between Paul and Joshua, though met with skepticism by some, appears to be progressing towards a real possibility as negotiations continue to unfold.
