“Russian and Belarusian Athletes Approved as Neutrals”

Published:

Athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete as neutrals in the upcoming winter season, according to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation. The athletes, coaches, and officials from these countries must sign a declaration of neutrality based on FIS principles to participate in FIS competitions. The ruling council of FIS has extended the neutral athlete policy for the upcoming season, emphasizing that no national symbols such as flags, anthems, or uniforms are permitted during events. Despite the approval, Russian athletes and team officials may still encounter difficulties obtaining visas for World Cup races hosted in certain European countries. This decision follows a previous ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in December that allowed Russian skiers to return to international events after a ban lasting almost four years due to the conflict in Ukraine. The athletes are striving to qualify for the Milan Cortina Olympics scheduled for February.
