Atlético Madrid has secured the services of Canadian forward Jonathan David on a loan deal from Juventus in Italy for the upcoming season, as announced by both clubs on Tuesday. The 26-year-old, hailing from Ottawa, had an impressive record last season with Juventus, featuring in 46 games and scoring eight goals. He has also made an appearance at the beginning of the current season.
David is set to vie for playing time in Madrid alongside Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who have been sidelined due to a muscle injury at the initial stages of the season. Prior to his stint with Juventus in 2025, David notably netted 109 goals in 232 matches for Lille in France, clinching the Ligue 1 title and the French Super Cup.
As the leading men’s scorer for Canada with 42 goals, David will also be linking up with his hometown team, Atlético Ottawa, in the Canadian Premier League. Atlético Madrid’s upcoming fixtures include a clash against Athletic Club on Saturday and a Champions League showdown against Liverpool on September 9.
