Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a rut nearly four years ago until her brother suggested she channel her love for K-pop and BTS into something positive. Taking his advice, Vann founded BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes events, meet-ups, giveaways, fundraisers, and supports Korean businesses. Despite facing personal loss when her brother passed away soon after, Vann continued to expand the community, which is now eagerly awaiting BTS’s return to Toronto after more than a decade.
As part of their Arirang World Tour, BTS is set to perform two sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium, entertaining around 100,000 fans over the weekend. The City of Toronto recently revealed BTS Boulevard on Yonge Street, specially named to coincide with the concerts and featuring a red design inspired by the tour’s branding. This temporary renaming will last until September 23, with the city also declaring the weekend as BTS Weekend and illuminating the Toronto sign in purple, a color associated with the band and its fans.
Known for their passionate following, BTS fans, known as the “army,” have a deep understanding of the band’s history, members, and music catalog. The group’s meaningful lyrics covering topics like mental health and self-love have fostered a devoted fanbase. BTS recently returned from a hiatus due to mandatory military service requirements for its seven members, with Toronto being their sole Canadian tour stop on a global journey spanning 88 shows in 34 cities across 23 countries until March 2027.
BTS’s impact on the global music scene has been significant, with their album “ARIRANG” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and breaking sales records. For Vann, witnessing BTS perform at home in Toronto holds special significance, especially after past cancellations due to the pandemic. Fans like Aira Uy, who missed the 2020 show, are excited for this opportunity, while the City of Toronto has embraced the band’s visit by co-naming a section of Yonge Street as “BTS Boulevard.” The buzz around BTS’s arrival is evident, with fans flocking to the official merchandise store and eagerly anticipating the upcoming concerts.
As the concert excitement builds, BTS Army Toronto is actively involved in community events and preparations for the shows. Vann is looking forward to the unique concert experience at Rogers Stadium, where BTS’s stage setup allows for an intimate connection with the audience. With the anticipation building up, Vann and the entire BTS community are gearing up for a memorable concert experience that will leave a lasting impact on all attendees.
