The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band has achieved global recognition once again. After 17 years, the band secured the Grade 1 world title at the recent World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. This victory marks the band’s seventh championship win.
Under the leadership of Pipe Major Alan Bevan, the band delivered an exceptional performance, earning praise from Glasgow Life, the organization overseeing the competition. Bevan expressed the significance of winning the prestigious championship, considering it the top accolade in the world of pipe bands.
This triumph is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time since 2010 that a non-UK band has claimed the world championship title, as highlighted by Glasgow Life. Over 200 bands from various countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Oman, and Malaysia, participated in this fiercely contested event.
Andrew Lee, a longstanding member of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, shared his joy at the victory, emphasizing the years of dedication and effort that went into achieving this milestone. Lee highlighted the band’s commitment to excellence and the honor they feel in winning the world championships.
