A powerful tornado wreaked havoc on the village of Pomas in southern France, causing extensive damage to over 300 homes and leaving numerous individuals injured. Fortunately, there have been no reports of missing persons in the aftermath of the disaster.

As of Tuesday morning, the Aude prefecture reported that 1,400 households were still without electricity. The tornado was captured on video swirling above the village of Verzeille, located a few kilometers east of Pomas. Many homes in its path suffered shattered windows due to the intense winds.

Images from social media and verified by Reuters show the tornado moving through Preixan, a nearby village north of Pomas. The destruction caused by the tornado has prompted residents to assess the damage and begin the cleanup process.

Residents were seen amidst the rubble of damaged houses, including one individual standing in front of a severely affected home in Pomas. The Saint Julien et Sainte Basilisse church also suffered significant damage, with debris scattered on the floor after the roof collapsed.

Fallen trees were pictured in a cemetery in Pomas, adding to the aftermath of the disaster. Repair efforts were underway, with individuals covering damaged roofs with tarps and pedestrians navigating around toppled trees near damaged homes in the area.
