CBC has secured an expanded role in Canadian curling through a fresh five-year broadcast agreement that will offer increased coverage of the Grand Slam of Curling playoffs and all Rock League matches across its platforms. The deal with The Curling Group, revealed on Thursday, will result in over 300 hours of combined TV coverage on CBC and Sportsnet during the 2026-27 season.
The major development for CBC lies in its coverage of Rock League. The professional league, which debuted in April, will return to CBC in January 2027, with every match being accessible on CBC television and CBC Gem. Moreover, selected games will also be broadcast on Radio-Canada’s ICI TOU.TV and Sportsnet on Thursdays and Fridays.
Rock League comprises six mixed-gender teams with players from various countries. Its upcoming season will include events on specific weekends in January and April, with games scheduled from Thursday to Sunday.
In addition to Rock League, CBC will play a more significant role in the Grand Slam of Curling. Sportsnet will remain the primary broadcaster for all five Grand Slam events starting in October, showing three draws per day from Tuesday to Friday. CBC and CBC Gem will join Sportsnet+ for Saturday’s playoff coverage, while Sportsnet will air the championship finals on Sundays, with CBC also featuring select finals throughout the season. Morning round-robin draws and tiebreakers from Tuesday to Saturday will continue to be streamed on Rock Channel.
The new agreement further solidifies CBC’s longstanding connection with curling and enhances its presence at major Canadian curling events. Chris Wilson, CBC’s executive director of sports and Olympics, expressed enthusiasm about sharing another season of Rock League with audiences nationwide.
The agreements with The Curling Group mark a milestone for both the Grand Slam and Rock League, providing them with a wider national viewership, according to Nic Sulsky, CEO and co-founder of The Curling Group. Over the next five years, Canadian fans can look forward to more extensive coverage, ranging from Grand Slam playoff weekends to the second season of Rock League on CBC.
