Three astronauts on a prolonged space mission were left stranded when their spacecraft was unexpectedly hit by an unidentified object. Chen Dong, Chen Zhongrui, and Wang Jie are currently marooned aboard the Shenzhou-20 mission at the Tiangong space station, as confirmed by China’s Manned Spaceflight Agency.

The astronauts’ return journey has been delayed due to damage sustained by the spacecraft’s hull from the impact. Experts have raised concerns about the increasing hazards posed by space debris orbiting Earth at high speeds. The Shenzhou program is responsible for ferrying astronauts to and from China’s Tiangong space station for a six-month period, where they conduct various tasks, including repairing station damages caused by debris impacts.
