“Fatal Shooting at Kentucky State University: Parent Faces Murder Charges”

Published:

A shooting incident at Kentucky State University has led to the death of a teenager, with a parent now facing murder charges. The accused, identified as Jacod Lee Bard from Evansville, Indiana, allegedly carried out the attack on the school’s campus in Frankfort on December 9. The shooting resulted in the tragic death of 19-year-old De’Jon Fox from Indianapolis and left another student critically injured.

Bard has been charged with murder and first-degree assault following the incident. The university police reported that the shooting occurred after an altercation, leading to Bard’s immediate arrest. Speculations have arisen suggesting that the shooting might have been triggered by a fight involving Bard’s son or concerns about his sons’ safety, but official details on the motive remain undisclosed.

The shooting took place at Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, marking the second shooting incident at the university’s halls of residence within four months. University President Koffi C. Akakpo mentioned that additional police officers were deployed after the first shooting, and further safety measures will be assessed once the investigation into the recent shooting concludes.

Kentucky State University, a historically Black institution with approximately 2,200 students, has been impacted by this tragic event. Bard is currently being represented by a public defender, with legal proceedings unfolding at the Franklin County Department of Public Advocacy. As authorities continue to investigate the case, the campus community mourns the loss and looks towards ensuring the safety of all students.
